Reading List

Ok, so you want to read. I think that is a wise choice.

The extended reading list is below, but if I could only choose 5 books to give someone, the following would currently be them:

The Alchemist
The Untethered Soul
The Fountainhead
The Art of Learning
The 4 Hour Work Week

Maybe not the most business-centric list, but business is only a small aspect of life.  Now, Let me briefly throw out a few thoughts and ideas before we get into the extended reading list.

First, Decide WHY You’re Reading.

My general take on reading is this that there are different reasons to read and that you should be clear on your intent before diving in. For example, I read some books for strategic business advice, thoughts or ideas that I might be able to implement to become more effective. Now, on the flipside, there are books that I read simply for enjoyment and/or to expand my mind and I don’t try to remember anything, write anything down, simply just enjoy.

So depending on the type of reading that you are doing you want to have a bit of a plan and that plan may actually be “I have no plan for this, no expectations, this is purely for enjoyment.” Just know, because as entrepreneurs we often feel guilty when we are not doing anything and often the simple act of creating space for “nothing” often helps the process.

Personally, I listen to a lot of books on Audible (free trial available at this link) because I like to make use of that often wasted time when I am driving or travelling. We have a lot of down time in our lives that we let chance fill by flipping on the radio or TV.  Taking control of these times and living deliberately and filling your brain and consciousness with the material and thoughts that you want to become is paramount to living the life you desire.

If you like the feel of a book in your hand, by all means, by the actual books.  Some people truly want and enjoy that, myself included from time to time.

If you are ok with digital, I would recommend the Kindle Paperwhite or Kindle Voyage. Both are solid eReaders with batteries that last for weeks so they are great for travel.

Ok, to the list and one more note: I have laid out the recommendation in a sort of order that I believe they might best be consumed in if you are starting from scratch in a particular area. If you already have experience in an area, by all means, use it as a menu, however if you are new to reading on any one particular topic I would suggest reading top to bottom on those lists. The exception of course being any fiction as the concepts don’t usually compound.

Enjoy and be sure to subscribe to the get updates to the list and other valuable information as it happens.

I only put the best of the best on here and left off everything else, so be sure to bookmark and check back as I update over time.
